John Clifton Bogle is the founder of The Vanguard Group, Inc. and president of its Bogle Financial Markets Research Center.  Mr. Bogle, who is 71, founded the firm in 1974 and served as chairman through 1997, and senior chairman through 1999.  He graduated from Princeton University, magna cum laude in Economics in 1951, and graduated from Blair Academy, Class of 1947.  The Vanguard Group is one of the two largest mutual fund organizations in the world, with over 100 mutual funds and current assets of more than $500 billion.  Mr. Bogle founded the group's largest fund, the Vanguard 500 Index Fund, the first index mutual fund, in 1975.
