“Best 2020 GIPS® Standards Policies & Procedures Contest”

Somerset, NJ – April 19, 2022. The Spaulding Group, Inc. (“TSG”) announced that it will hold its second Best GIPS Standards Policies & Procedures (P&P) contest. The first was held in 2018, and was won by Appleton Partners.

“The 2020 version of the GIPS standards requires all firms to make changes, sometimes significant, to their policies and procedures,” said Ashley Reeves, CIPM, a TSG Executive Vice President and the firm’s Chief Verification Officer (CVO); she heads the firm’s Global Investment Performance Standards verification practice and related performance certification and review services. “As verifiers to more than 300 firms, we see a lot of policies and procedures: some are exceptional, some good, and some need improvement.”

“Our first contest was quite successful, and the changes to the Standards warranted a ‘redo,’” said Patrick W. Fowler, the firm’s President and Chief Operating Officer. All P&P submissions will undergo a detailed review by our verification team, who will provide each firm with a written, tailored assessment. The contest is not limited to our clients, meaning firms who use a different verifier can benefit from having us review their P&P; i.e., to get a “second opinion.” The contest will result in the identification of the top three policies and procedures for firms and asset owners; these will be published in The Journal of Performance Measurement,” said Douglas Spaulding, a Senior Vice President and Editor of The Journal at The Spaulding Group. “This way, other firms can see what excellent P&Ps look like. It is our hope that this will not only benefit the participants, but other firms who want to improve their P&P.”

The contest is open to all asset managers and asset owners who claim compliance with the GIPS standards. To participate, firms and asset owners must submit their policies and procedures, ideally in MS/Word format, to TSG by June 30, 2022. By participating in the contest, each firm agrees that if their policies are ranked #1, #2, or #3, they will be printed in an upcoming issue of The Journal. The top three asset manager (firm) and asset owner finishers will also be identified in a press release, and they’ll receive recognition in The Journal. Each winner will receive an attractive award. The first-place winners will also receive complimentary passes to PMAR North America, PMAR West, or PMAR Europe, where an award presentation will take place.
